'06 Duramax, Speal at 1200RPM

I tried to post at http://www.thedieselgarage.com/ but am having trouble.
Can any of you mechanical gurus point me in the right direction?
06 Duramax with 40,000 miles.
Squeal at 1200rpm accelerating or decelerating.
Sometimes but not often "Battery Not Charging" light comes on.
Seems to NOT be happening during damp or rainy weather.
This has been going on for roughly 10,000 miles.
I took it too the dealer the other day. He said the belt has some hot spots on it and the computer is calling for a generator. Dealer wants $700.00 +/-
I find that troubling on a 40,000 mile vehicle.
If I read the manual right it says replace the belt at 150,000 miles unless it shows wear earlier.
What do you think?

If you need a Cheap Genny

Last week after discussing Honda genny I bought a Champion for $300.00 at Tractor Supply. Worked great, and I can buy three for the price of the Honda.
If you need one, Aldi is selling what must be a Champion Generator next week for $199.00. The only difference is 3250 watts and NO RV Plug. Looks exactly like the Champ but red tank and trim...CHEAP.
Good luck.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

And I meant to say...the folks at Champion were very helpful when finally asked where I could get one and some other questions. Like it. Thanks Champion.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

I bought the Champ! Started second pull. Running like a scalded dog right now. Everybody happy but my neighbors...kiding. I will not be a generator snob. Only when necessary. Thanks for all the input.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

WEll, I like that Champion. Now I need to find one on the East Coast, or better yet within 100 miles of AVL. Thx
Horseplay: Davidson River is one of our favorite places. Dont need a generator there though. We want to go to beach this weekend (James Island Count Park, Charleston) and cant find FHU. Overflow is a big field in the open and thats ok but may need AC. Its time to get genny anyway. Not having genny has stopped us from going to a few places this year.

RE: Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

I wonder if I could change the muffler on it? Or make a tent type noise deflector...
I see your point about noise.
What about theft too..some fool might borrow the thing when I go away and leave the pooch cooling it in the T...come back to hot dog!
Getting more difficult!
Thanks for replies.

Hnda Generator, why do I need the Quiet Inverter model

I want a Generator for use with my TT. My concern is AC in hot locations.
I was about to buy the Honda 3000isA. It is super quiet, and has an inverter.
But, it is about 700.00 more than similarly rated generators. The difference is the Inverter and the DBs.
I can get almost the same generator in the EB 3000cKAG for $1349.00, at least 600.00 less.
The difference is that the EB model is 10 db louder, smaller gas tank and no Inverter. Not to mention the EB model is 66 pounds lighter!
My Dutchman has an Inverter, So, Why spend the extra money?

RE: If you could choose one Battery, what would it be?

I have a Group 27. I am going to buy a Group 34.
What if I connect the two?
And, what is the difference between Deep Cycle and RV?
Thx

New Orleans, late March...Campground suggestions?

Going to be in NO late march on business. Thinking about taking family and TT instead of flying and hotel. We like the open-ness and remote feel of state and federal campgrounds.
Any suggestions close to NO? The business location is Sheraton Canal St but I only need to be there max two days.
Thx
